Headquartered in New Orleans, Louisiana, IMTT is the largest independent bulk liquids storage and logistics provider in North America. Our terminals handle and store a wide variety of bulk liquids, including chemicals, vegetable and tropical oils, renewable fuels, and crude and refined petroleum products.

IMTT Milestones

First terminal purchased
IMTT was established by James J. Coleman, Sr. in 1939 with the purchase of the Avondale, Louisiana terminal.
Partnership with Van Ommeren formed
Between 1975–1999, the business was operated in a partnership with Van Ommeren (now Vopak).
Coleman family acquires 100% ownership of IMTT
On January 1, 2000, the Coleman family acquired Van Ommeren’s ownership interest and became the 100% owner of IMTT.
Macquarie Infrastructure Corporation invests in IMTT
In May 2006, Macquarie Infrastructure Corporation (NYSE: MIC) acquired a 50% interest in IMTT.
Macquarie becomes full owner of IMTT
In July 2014, MIC acquired the remaining 50% interest in IMTT. Today, IMTT is a wholly-owned subsidiary of MIC, which owns, operates, and invests in a portfolio of infrastructure-like businesses throughout the United States.
IMTT adds seven terminals to portfolio
In August 2017, IMTT added seven terminals to its portfolio through the acquisition of Epic Midstream.
Riverstone acquires IMTT
Announced in November 2020, MIC entered into an agreement to sell IMTT to Riverstone, a global private equity firm with over $42 billion of assets under management. The transaction was finalized in December 2020. To read more about our management team, click here.
